Dear Friends,
It’s been an absolute honor serving the 76th House District over the last two sessions. Unfortunately, I’ve had to make the difficult decision not to run for reelection so I can continue advancing in my law enforcement career and help more people in that capacity.
As many know, the Kansas Legislature is only in session for about three months each year, along with periodic meetings throughout the rest of the year. I’m extremely grateful to my boss, District Attorney Kagay, for allowing me to take off nearly three months each year to serve the people of the 76th House District. That level of support made it possible for me to continue serving both in law enforcement and in the Legislature, and I’ll always be thankful for that opportunity.
I’m also incredibly grateful to the people of the 76th House District for putting their trust in me, reaching out about issues that mattered to them, and giving me the opportunity to serve our communities in this role.
I’m beyond grateful for the support of my wife throughout this entire experience. Serving in office takes a tremendous amount of time and sacrifice, and I couldn’t have done it without her encouragement and support every step of the way.
Over the last several months, my wife and I have spent a lot of time praying about where God is leading us next. After a great deal of thought and prayer, I truly feel that stepping away from politics and focusing on law enforcement is my calling at this point in my life.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the men and women who serve in the Legislature and dedicate so much of their time to public service. I’ve truly enjoyed working on criminal justice policy and serving the people of this district. But if I’m being honest, chasing bad guys is probably a little more fun than debating tax policy.
I’m also proud of some of the legislative accomplishments during my time in office, including legislation I introduced to better protect some of Kansas’s most vulnerable from predators by updating state law to address artificial intelligence-generated child exploitation material, as well as increasing penalties for breach of privacy crimes against children. Those bills only made it across the finish line because of the support and hard work of fellow legislators, law enforcement professionals, prosecutors, and community members who brought attention to these issues in the first place.
